ORV Ordinance Adopted
Emmet County Board of Commissioners adopts ORV Ordinance
By a 6‐1 vote the Emmet County Board of Commissioners on Thursday adopted an Off the Road Vehicle (ORV) ordinance that will open many of the county’s local and primary roads to ORV traffic.
The vote came following a public hearing at the county’s Community Center, attended by 125 people, most of them proponents of the proposed ordinance.
The meeting was orderly and everyone wanting to express a view was allowed three minutes to speak.
Commissioner Tom Shier voted against the measure, citing concerns over safety, difficulty of enforcement, possible threats to the environment , vagueness of the language, and lack of DNR
established trails in the county. He said he felt the vote was premature because the state legislature is still debating amendments to the state ORV law.
